Sophia Poppy Ericksen

Sophia Poppy Ericksen (she/her) was born in Estes Park, Colorado, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, and is currently based in Denver. Her work has been shown in Denver, Seattle, and at RULE Gallery in Marfa, TX.

Sophia explores what haunts. She is drawn to ghosts of all kinds: the people and selves we lose, the memories that fade and distort, the childhood a trans person was never allowed to live, and the nostalgia a culture feels for a past that never really existed. She explores identity, queerness, memory, and grief through both cultural and personal lenses.

Ericksen works across collage and glitch: meticulous cut-out ink paintings combined with personal, familial, and found photography, and scanner-distorted intimate imagery.
