JACOB FEIGE

Abstract images and pastoral environments have both been historically regarded as pure in some way, the former being a purity of the mind and the latter being a purity of the earth without much human involvement. At the most basic level, my paintings make connections between abstraction and landscape as mythologized, utopian, American things. Sometimes these connections lead to cohesive images, with landscape painting creating a context for some abstract event or apparition; other times the two form a tense relationship, sitting uneasily in the same work.

Jacob Feige was born in 1979 in Albany, NY. He received his BHA from Carnegie Mellon in 2002 and his MFA in painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2005. His work has been exhibited recently at Lombard-Freid Projects in New York, the Orlando Museum of Art, and at the Daimler Chrysler Emerging Artist Award Exhibition in Berlin. He currenly lives and works in New York City.
